Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at adtssystems@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

1. Introduction

Market Structure & Swings (MS&S) is a professional-grade Price Action tool for NinjaTrader 8. It removes the noise from your charts by automatically identifying Major and Minor swing points, mapping trend direction, and visualizing key Support & Resistance zones in real-time.

Unlike static indicators, MS&S features an Interactive History mode, allowing you to "hover" over past price action to see exactly how market structure formed and broke.

2. Core Concepts

Before using the indicator, it is helpful to understand the basic market structure definitions used by the algorithm:

  • Major      Swings (Structure Points): Significant turning points that define the      larger trend (Higher Highs, Higher Lows).
  • Minor      Swings (Internal Structure): Smaller pivots that occur within     the major swings. These are useful for aggressive entries but do not      define the macro trend.
  • Break      of Structure (BOS): When price closes beyond a previous major swing,      signaling a potential trend continuation or reversal.

3. Visual Reference

When you load MS&S on your chart, here is what you will see:

  • Major High Large Beige Dot (Top) - A significant structural high.
  • Major Low Large Beige Dot (Bottom) - A significant structural low.
  • Minor High Small Lime Dot - A short-term high (internal structure).
  • Minor Low Small Pink Dot - A short-term low (internal structure).
  • Real-Time Zone Green or Red Box (Right Edge) - The current active Support (Green) or Resistance (Red) range for the ongoing trend.
  • Break Line White Dashed Line - The specific price level that must hold to maintain the current trend structure.

4. Interactive Features (The "Hover" System)

MS&S is designed to keep your charts clean. Advanced analysis tools are hidden until you need them. You can access these features by simply moving your mouse cursor over specific chart elements.

A. Hover Over a Break Bar

Move your mouse over any candle that caused a Trend Break(a change in market structure).

  • Action:     Hover over the specific bar.
  • Result:
    • A Support/Resistance       Box appears, showing the zone that was created by that break.
    • The       Break Level (the exact price line that was crossed) lights up in       bright yellow.
    • A       label appears (e.g., "Historical Bull Break") to confirm       the signal type.

B. Hover Over a Swing Line

Move your mouse over the horizontal lines extending from the last Major High or Low.

  • Action:     Hover over the line itself.
  • Result:
    • Future       Projection: A Yellow Zig-Zag Path appears, connecting that       specific swing to all future Major Swings. This helps you visualize the       "flow" of the market from that point onward.
    • Linked       Context: If that swing line was eventually broken, the resulting Break       Box will also appear, showing you the consequence of that structural       failure.

5. Settings & Parameters

You can customize MS&S to fit your specific trading style via the NinjaTrader indicator settings window.

2. Market Structure

  • Use      1 Swing for Trend Change: (Default: True)
    • Aggressive       Mode. The trend changes direction as soon as the most recent      Major Swing is broken. Recommended for standard time-based charts (1-min,       5-min).
  • Use      2 Swings for Trend Change: (Default: False)
    • Conservative       Mode. The price must break the second most recent swing to       confirm a trend change. Highly recommended for noise-heavy charts like       Renko, Range, or Tick charts.
  • Show      Major/Minor Swings: Toggles the visibility of the dots.
  • Show      Swing Trend Hover: (Default: True) Enables the Yellow Zig-Zag      path when hovering over lines.

3. Visual

  • Show      Swing Labels: Displays text values for swing points (optional).
  • Swing      Dots Offset: Adjusts how far away the dots appear from the candle      wicks. Increase this value if the dots are overlapping with the candles.
  • Text      Fonts & Colors: Fully customizable colors for Highs, Lows, and      Labels to match your chart theme.

6. Practical Trading Tips

1. The "Pullback" Strategy

Wait for a Green Real-Time Zone to appear (confirmed Uptrend). Place limit orders inside the green box. Your stop loss goes below the white Break Line.

2. The "Breakout" Failure

Hover over past Swing Highs to see where resistance failed. Often, old resistance turns into new support. Use the Interactive Hover to quickly check if a current support level aligns with a historical "Bull Break" zone.

3. Renko/Range Charts

If you trade Renko bars, switch the setting to "Use 2 Swings for Trend Change". Renko charts can create many "false" swings; requiring a 2-swing break filters out the chop and keeps you in the major trend longer.

    • If Net PnL (N) hits the Stop or Target, the system will:
      1. Flatten the Slave account.
      2. Disable the Slave. ONLY FOR CURRENT OPERATION TO PREVENT FLIPPING OR OVERFILL. TO STOP THE ACCOUNT FROM RECEIVING TRADES, DISABLE IT IN THE SETTING TAB.
      3. Uncheck the protection box.

  • N (Net PnL): Realized + Unrealized PnL.
  • O (Open PnL): Unrealized PnL only.

Managing Slave Positions

  • CLOSE ALL: Flattens all positions for this specific slave.
  • Show POS / HIDE POS: Expands the row to show exactly what positions are open on this slave.
  • Individual Close: Inside the expanded view, you can close specific symbol positions on the slave without flattening the whole account.

6. Important Notes & Tips

  1. Order Types: The copier converts Master orders into Market Orders for the slaves to ensure execution. Limit orders on the Master are not placed on slaves until they are filled on the Master.
  2. ATM Strategies: If you use ATM strategies (Brackets) on the Master, the Slaves will copy the entry and exit orders as they happen. The Slaves do not replicate the ATM bracket UI itself, but the net result is the same.
  3. Cross-Exchange: You can copy from Evaluation accounts (Rithmic) to Live accounts or vice versa.
  4. Spread Warning: If you see the Spread text turn Red, it means the spread is 4 ticks or wider. Avoid hitting "Buy/Sell Market" buttons at this moment to prevent bad fills.

    • FONT SIZE: Adjust the text size for better readability on high-res monitors.

Click APPLY & RESTART. The dashboard will reload with your new configuration.

6. Troubleshooting

  • "Waiting for Data...": If cells remain empty with ... or ---, ensure you are connected to a data feed (Kinetick, Rithmic, CQG, etc.) in the main NinjaTrader window.
  • Incorrect Contract (e.g., NQ 12-25 vs 03-26): If the dashboard shows no data for a specific symbol, check the Settings menu to ensure the contract month matches the currently active contract.
  • Window Disappeared: If you cannot find the window, go to Tools > ADTS Dashboard again. If it is already open, it will bring the existing window to the front.
